Readings and Questions for Faith Sharing

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Week of August 29, 2010

Readings and Questions for
Faith Sharing

Reading I: Sirach 3: 17-18, 20, 28-29
  • Conduct your affairs with humility.

    Reading II:
    Hebrews 12: 18-19, 22-24a
  • You have drawn near to the city of the living God.

    Gospel: Luke 14: 1, 7-14

  • Whoever exalts self shall be humbled and whoever humbles self will be exalted.

    Theme:
Give as God gives - in humility and love.

    Question for Adults:

  • Who are the people living near you that you would find it most difficult to invite to a meal in your home? Or to invite to be part of your life?

    Question for Youth:
  • God asks us to do for others without hope of repayment. This past week, what did you do for someone else for which you won't be repaid? Who are the people most in need of your generosity?

    Question for Children:
  • Jesus tells us that we should treat everyone as a guest. Who do you tend to shun or not be nice to?

Ideas for Using the Faith Sharing Question:

    • Do you keep a spiritual journal? Use the faith sharing question for personal reflection.
    • Try your hand at writing faith sharing questions for your own family.
    • Families can use the faith sharing question for their evening prayers.
    • Looking for an opening prayer for a meeting at church? Use the faith sharing question!
    • Emmaus groups can use the question for an opening prayer.
    • Families can read the Gospel passage and discuss the faith sharing question at mealtime.
    • These are not meant to be "yes" or "no" questions, but ones that draw the users deeper into the Gospel.
    • Remember: the faith sharing question asks for a personal response, not a theological discourse.
    • Make faith sharing a way of life.  The faith sharing question helps us to see Christ in our world every day.
    • Don't forget the faith sharing question for children!
