Little Lambs

A Liturgy of the Word for preschool children, this parent co-op is offered at the 10:00 Sunday mass. Little Lambs are children who are 3 by September 2011, 4-year-olds and children who are 5 and not yet in kindergarten. The children hear stories from the Bible about Jesus, sing songs and do crafts. Children gather before mass in the kindergarten node and return to their parents after the homily. Parents are asked to assist and teach one or two times during the October through April year. Veronica Quinn (381-7604) and Staci Reuter (962-4212) are the parent coordinators. Candi Phillips is the staff liaison and can be reached at 563-5306 or Registration will be Sunday, August 21 after the 10:00 mass.

Liturgy of the Word

Liturgy of the Word is available for children ages 5 – 11 at the 5:00 Saturday and 8:00 and 10:00 Sunday masses. LOW begins in the fall and concludes in the spring. Children are invited by Father to come to the front of the church for a blessing, and then process to a space especially prepared for them. Activities include music, age-appropriate readings, a dialogue homily and spontaneous prayer. Children receive a puzzle page and rejoin their families after the homily. Responsible older children (over age 11) are welcome as aides. Young children who are unsure may be accompanied by a parent or older sibling until they feel comfortable coming alone. No registration is necessary. Please contact Candi at 563-5306 with any questions.

Kids' Creed

The Kids' Creed Program for children who are in grades 1 - 6 is an after school program that empowers children to share, celebrate and live their Catholic faith at home and in the world. Each child is welcomed and embraced as an important member of our faith community. Our mission statement is "Becoming what we believe." If you have any questions about our program, please contact Debbie Carmody, Director of Children's Ministry (563-5303). Click here for more information.

OASIS (Grades 9 - 12)

We are a welcoming community of young individuals living and growing in Christ. We gather to share faith, build relationships, care for others and have fun.

At Good Shepherd, focus is on the building of a comprehensive youth ministry. Teens want to make friends, have fun, learn and be challenged by their faith, and make a difference in the world. All youth and their friends are invited to participate in our youth program.

Our High School Ministry, OASIS, meets on Sunday evening immediately following the 5:00pm Mass. Dinner is followed by a program that runs until 8:00pm.

The high school youth ministries will also offer Scripture Study, retreat opportunities, service and outreach to the community, and leadership development opportunities.  These gatherings and events are open to all high school teens and their friends.

Note: High School Confirmation candidates should contact Mary Mueller for more information.

Adult Formation

Welcome to another exciting season of Adult Formation at Good Shepherd. Last fall,  523 people participated in over 3583  hours of formation offerings. Take a close look and be a part of this growing ministry.

In this flyer there are programs, schedules and formats that will resonate with our life experiences.  Join us as we explore our faith from a variety of perspectives with the knowledge that adult formation should always be meaningful and practical.

Help us to help you, by registering or reserving space in these offerings at least one week prior to the event.  This allows us to have appropriate space and resources available for all participants.    To reserve a space in any of the offerings, phone or email one of us at the addresses below. If there is a fee, checks should be made payable to Good Shepherd and will count as a confirmed reservation.

Becoming A Catholic

Adults who are interested in exploring Catholic beliefs and practices are invited to participate in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). This is a process of prayer, reflection and study spread over several months during which the inquirer participates in Catholic life and worship. The focus of the RCIA process is Christian conversion - a change of heart in which the individual turns toward God and away from whatever is in the way of living a full Christian life.  Please contact Debbie Carmody at 913-631-7356 or email her at

Vacation Church Camp

VCC is usually held the first or second week of June. This is an extraordinarily popular program, and many classes close quickly. This is one program where children can bring a friend who is not registered in the parish. Watch the bulletin and website for details.
